Been a while

Back to the dog running!  It's been a few months of gentle recovery, but glad to say that my running paws are now fit for adventures.
Got some Christmas pooch excesses to work off this month, so back hitting the trails with some of my fav hounds!
Whatever the weather, I've got a coat for it, those 4-legged friends love an adventure!

"Dynamic hip screw (DHS) or Sliding Screw Fixation is a type of orthopaedic implant designed for fixation of certain types of hip fractures which allows controlled dynamic sliding of the femoral head component along the construct. One common use is internal fixation of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur." (Wikipedia 2017)

Kind of says it all, what I at first thought a simple hip flexor issue, turned out to be a complete ( non displaced)  fracture of the neck of femur. The next sentence of the wiki explanation reads " often found in older people".

So has the last 20 odd years of racing and diets and low body weights, endurance events finally got me? Probably and although I certainly didn't see this coming yet, my young bones are shouting at me to help them out of a stick situation and it's time ( for the next few months) to listen to them...

I'm looking at a reasonably long recovery period, with help from our amazing NHS services I should make a full recovery and be back running hopefully next year.

Currently I'm doing a lot of sitting on my arse and this is the way it has to be for a number of weeks. ...suck it up chuck!!

Am I in a happy place...No, but it's not forever, I will still get to live life after recovery and get back to them hills.

Wow...its been a while

So since the last post, fricking loads has happened...ran across wales with my mate rach, entered the spine mrt challenger, got my cape wrath kit sorted, got over my disappointment with Aven, got plantar Faciitis, recovered, worked like a dog, dogging :)  Alfie got mega ill, had surgery, now recovering #luckydog. Ran injured, ran again with taping, got a pain, kept running, fed myself drugs...now on crutches.....lesson learnt!!!

Got 4 weeks to recover, no training, going slightly mad, but keeping up with upper body stuff in the gym

Also on a gym programme, upped my training, got some PT advice

Life is too short...who knows what os around the corner...#dowhatyoulovenow #getoutside #dostuff

Wow :)

Back from a great SARDA weekend on DArtmoor. Aven passed her/our indication test, finding 4 blind bodies and showing me where they lay in the woods with a dramatic "woof" , very proud of her and her progression to stage 2!

Lots off work ahead of us now, playing with the big boys and girls! Time for me to start working, learning how to give her the chance and confidence to perhaps become a SAR dog.

Not sure how we will progress, the journey is certainly full of emotional highs and lows, many hours of training, depends whether I am strong enough to ride the storms and finish the challenge, whether Aven has the innate drive to work; whatever the outcome, love time with this girl.

First back to back 102 km over 2 days

Packing light, critical for trying to anything that resembles running...or lets be honest wabjabbing.  Think I (nearly) got my kit  down to the minimum kg I could with the kit I owned, perhaps a lighter tarp and a more comfy sleeping arrangement would improve the experience.

Kit ready for re-packing in Salomon 15 and room to spare; will have to weigh it next time!
